My September project was about to finish my Ibanez. Before (left) & after (right). Initially I took it apart in december of 2012. I took it apart and put it together several times, along the way changing all electronic parts, strings and pickups. Idea was to make trashiest looking piece of wood with best sound i can make with my own hands and some google research. From the look of 80euro-pawnshop-junk I headed for personalised look, like it was used for some 200 years. A lot of experimentation, sandpaper, wood ageing reagents was used in making this, as well as black tea and flax seed oil for darkening.
At some point I was looking for rust infusion. I tried almost everything in household i knew or google - salt, vinegar, bleach, etc tried all kinds of metals nothing seems to work. While my previous car was rusting without any obvious reagents.
P.s. by the way, If you need your brand new over shiny iPhone new look - feel free to contact me ;)
Poem by Rudyard Kipling (1865-1936) Performed by Dennis Hopper (1936-2010) Music & Montage by Apsits (1977-)
Somewhere in chambers of my latest depression, by struggling with Q&A about WTF and WHY I’m doing here, somehow this piece of sound&motion accumulated.
Amazing Dennis Hopper reciting Kipling’s “IF” at The Johnny Cash Show in 1970. At the time he was 34, a bit younger then me, this was way before Apocalypse Now, Blue Velvet, The River’s Edge. Crossing 3 generations in context of poem gives another layer to thought.
Besides work and work and more work, another guitar upgrade is coming this weekend. This time active EMG ZW’s are coming to suite my ears. This week at music shop i had conversation with a guy who new the guy who built my Ibanez copy from scratch more then 20 years ago. He is dead. This was inspirational shopping (for my next mandolin project) at music shop just before midnight. #guitar #gear #music #masters #rip #ibanez #sound #emg #zakk
Ibanez Samopal 2.1 upgrade: small surgery - two appendicitis - russian made wonders had to be cut out СП-1, СП3-30а. Pickups straight to output jack for drastically cleaner sound. #fake #ibanez #upgrade #music #gear #sound
Finally, i managed to put my Ibanez Samopal 2.0 back together. And it does make a sound, as you can hear. Not even one screw left spare as it usually happens in such a projects. However im gona upgrade pickups and all other electric parts to get cleaner and fatter sound, must do some neck styling too. And last but not least must get my lazy fingers in shape. #ibanez #samopal #guitar #sound #music #gear
2 years ago my nicotine withdrawal had strange side effect - by smallest possible detail i took apparat and put together old devices: microscopes, cellphones, macbook, photo cameras, and musical instruments. One of my victims - guitar. Whether inspired by live music capital of the world Austin or by cutting down my nicotine intake, this week, two years after im putting together & upgrading my old trusty Ibanez copy. Hopefully this gona make some noise again. #ibanez #copy #deathmetal #heavy #slasher #music #guitar #gear
12aug. Clap Your Hands Say Yeah gig at Mohawk, two bands at Continental (place where Tarantio could be seen), piano at White Horse, and more … nights can become busy time by time in Austin. They wouldn’t let me in while i haven’t hug a bear for good luck. From this bar my host Alejandro (Vejo) have been kicked out only twice. He keeps me introducing with all people we meet during night - musicians, bartenders, taxi drivers with people he knows and doesn’t know. Most amazing host ever, Argentinian with grandmother from Lithuania.
14 days in US’n’A with same amount to come. I must use my time wisely and not waste any drop of it. Alejandro & Sandra have been real good in helping me with that.
Last night in Austin, Alejandro gave me double vinyl goodby-present:
- “But i don’t have a vinyl player”
- “There is CD version inside”
- “mkei, Thank You”
Then i came home and realised i don’t have a CD player either, will check them out on Spotify. Thank You Alejandro!
